On Friday, 1 Dec 2011, I finally had my transscrotal procedure and I am sharing the experience below for anyone thinking about it.
I got to Shaman Modifications at about 1030 and Pineapple was there to meet me. As always he made me free welcome and comfortable and directed me to the procedure room. He set up music to my taste and I got ready and then got up on the procedure bench after he put sterile paper on it. He was getting the rest of the tools ready as I got ready and as I lay there he went briefly over the steps and then checked for placement location. We agreed on pretty much the location I wanted it and made sure things lined up and my testicles would be out of the way. Once the autoclave was done he got the tools out and set them up, then marked the location. He used clamps to make sure my testicles stayed out of the way and that was one of the most painful part of the procedure. I tried to compare it to my vasectomy, but that was 19 years ago and I remember the doc then didn’t use anesthetic either as he needed me to tell him when he found the vas deferens.
Pineapple is very skillful and experienced and he made the cuts and worked the hole open adroitly and worked with me and with breathing and timing to keep the pain to a minimum. After he made the cuts and worked the hole to his liking he began to stitch it. First he put in placement/holder stitches and once he had the front and back lined up properly and a sufficient number of holder stitches to keep it in place, he removed the clamps. By this point I was not longer feeling the clamps. He then put in the closing stitches. He changed gloves to keep them clean of dried blood a number of times. I didn’t get a count on the total number of stitches but he didn’t quit until he had it closed well and the bleeding pretty much stopped. He showed me both when he had the hole complete and then again when the stitching was done by putting his pinky in the hole. The last thing he did was put in a antiseptic gauze pad to hold it open and absorb any blood. He was going to leave it just open, but had a bit of issue with it wanting to close and suggested I put in a 1/2inch curved barbell I have so when it became swollen it wouldn’t completely close. He then cleaned everything up as best he could, and I finished it up as best as I could without soap. I had a sock that I put over it as I have started wearing one over my scrotum anyway to eliminate the sound of my metal clinking while at the office.
I had about a 90 minute drive home and kept a bottle of ice I had from my breakfast ice-chest on it all the way home. I also took some Arnica and have been using it and keeping it iced the best I could. As I said, I got there about 1030 and left about 1230, so it took about 2 hours. I was home a bit before 4 as I stopped in a drive through for a burrito. I had a bit of blood on the sock and a couple of spots on my pants. I slid the antiseptic gauze out and the ½ inch curved barbell in after I cleaned it off with some antiseptic soap. The barbell slid in very easily. The pain was not too bad, but it began to hurt more over the evening and swell a bit more, especially when I was asleep. So I got another ice pack as well as more Arnica and tried to keep ice on it the rest of the night as best I could. Thank God for ZipLock bags. It has been tender all day and I have been keeping it iced as much as possible. I felt swollen pretty good, but when I cleaned it up and took pictures of it this evening it looks like it is doing pretty good.
In about 10 days to 2 weeks I will be removing the stitches but I won’t be trying to do anything else with it until sometime later January.
