Wildland Fires and the Fourth of July

With the upcoming Fourth of July I hope that everyone is careful with fireworks. I am currently working on a wildland fire assignment in California. These fires were started by lightning and it is really disheartening to see all those trees burned up. Please be careful with fireworks this Fourth we do not need to burn up any more trees or homes this summer.

Thanks for your hard work Sierra.
I have spent a lot of time in Big Sur and the surrounding area photographing it's beauty since the mid '70s. I have shared many meals with friends at Nepenthe http://www.nepenthebigsur.com/index.htm it saddens me to hear that it is threatened by fire.

Thank you. I am safe and sound at home. I don't work on the fireline any more, but I support the firefighters by working in other aspects of the fire organization. It saddens me, too. I hate to see all that gorgeous scenery turn black, whether it is on the coast or in the Sierra's.
