Today, after over 6 months of waiting, I finally got my daith pierced! I went to Insight Studios in Chicago to get pierced by the legendary Bob Jones. Once my paperwork was filled out, he took me back to their very clean piercing area. Bob had picked out a 16g CBR as my jewelry. I wasn't sure if I had enough cartilage to get a daith, but he said it'd be fine. He cleaned my ear and marked it, held the needle to my ear and asked if I was ready. When I said I was, he told me to take a deep breath in and when I exhaled, he started pushing the needle through my ear.
The pain was very bearable, it was mostly pressure and stinging and I heard a few "crunches" as the needle passed through the cartilage. It was more weird than painful. I would rate the pain a 6 or 7 out of 10. Once the needle was through, putting the jewelry in was pretty easy. There was a tiny bit of blood he wiped up with a Q-tip, but the piercing is 4 hours old now and hasn't bled since. My ear still feels tender in that general area, but since the daith piercing is in my ear I don't expect having a problem sleeping on it if I roll over in my sleep.
Bob gave me a complementary bottle of special antibacterial soap and said to wash it twice a day. I asked him about saline soaks and he said they weren't necessary unless the piercing develops issues. Hoping for a speedy and uneventful recovery!
